DAY 2 OF 3

Trust Issues

The word for “trust” in the Old Testament for Proverbs 3:5 is bâţach. According to Strong’s Concordance and Brown–Driver–Briggs, bâţach means to trust in; have confidence in; to be bold, secure, feel safe, and careless.

It seems that God is telling us to trust and have confidence in Him alone and then from that place of trust, we will feel safe, secure, bold, and careless. It’s wild because we worship God and sing songs about how powerful He is, yet we often have trust issues, unintentionally doubting that He is who He says He is. You’re not alone. He’s working on me in this area too!

I believe God is saying through His Word that when we, with our free will, choose to trust Him regardless of our situation, we will ultimately feel safe and secure. From this place of truly trusting in Him will come a sense of boldness and carelessness—a boldness to live unashamed, knowing His way is best. Nothing will stop us from trusting and obeying Him, and carelessness for preaching the Gospel with no doubts or fear of what anyone might say or think about us—a supernatural carelessness towards any persecution or negative worldly ramifications resulting from obeying the Lord.

With this newfound trust in the Lord, you’ll be able to walk through the doors the Lord opens for you confidently. Ultimately, it’s trust that speaks through your actions. While this might reveal how little you trust God, it also shows how you can live your life in freedom if you decide to actually trust God. If you’re filled with anxiety and overthinking, you don’t trust. If you worry, it’s because you don’t trust.

Many of the issues you deal with in your life are rooted in your lack of trust in God. Just think of one of the core issues you’ve been dealing with, go to the root of that issue, and see if you find a lack of trust in God. I’m not saying all of your issues will be but identify which ones are. Pause and reflect for a minute. Make the conscious decision to let go and trust that you’re in His hands. Truly trust in God with all your heart, and don’t rely on your understanding.
