21 Ways To Thrive By 45Sample
Disciple Someone
As you are connected to the Father, growing in your faith, listening to the whispers of the Holy Spirit, and looking to love and serve those around you, invite someone to walk alongside you. Add your faith to another’s.
Titus 2 encourages the older women to train the younger in godliness and model love as they love their families, and walk with a pure and kind heart. It might seem like a tall order to disciple someone and tell the next generation of God’s goodness. As we disciple another, we share our scars, bruises, and how Jesus was the answer in our troubled times. We make disciples as we invite others to grow in their faith.
When you choose to disciple another:
Be available. Look for pockets of your calendar where you have the margin to devote to another. If you feel like you don’t have time, identify what you’re already doing where another woman could tag along.
Be honest. If you’re asking for honesty from a woman you’re discipling, then be honest in the way you present yourself. If you appear distant and polished, it may create a chasm, separating her situation from your perceived perfection.
Be an example. As you pursue life with Jesus, it will often show without a word of instruction. Much of mentoring is caught, not taught. As she observes a fruitful life, she'll see the redeeming grace of Jesus at work.
Be a listener. Let your time together be a safe place for her to share her heart in complete confidence. As easy as it is to dole out advice, simply listen. As she shares, your kind eyes and smile will encourage her more than you can imagine.
Be prayerful. Commit yourself to interceding for her. Pray with her and for her. Believe for new revelation, wisdom, and the fruit of the spirit to be made evident in her life as she seeks the heart of Jesus.
Be healthy. Mentoring is not mothering. You aren’t solely responsible for her faith, growth, or mistakes. She is. Pursue your own emotional spiritual health to mentor her from a healthy place.
You’ll stumble upon rich blessings as you disciple another. When you share the burdens and victories of another, you’ll advance the gospel from your home to your city, to the ends of the earth. May you taste and see all God has planned as you disciple.
