Expecting the One With Many NamesSample
POWER IN THE NAME!
Each day of this Advent Devotion, remember the Power in the names of Jesus. Jesus chose to share that Power. Before ascending to the Father, He left us with the enduring power of the Holy Spirit that lives within those who believe.
In areas of the Scripture, Jesus was the 'Angel of the Lord.' The Angel of the Lord speaks as God, identifies Himself with God, and exercises the responsibilities of God.
And the ‘Angel of the Lord’ appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush. He looked, and behold, the bush was burning, yet it was not consumed. And Moses said, “I will turn aside to see this great sight, why the bush is not burned.” When the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called to him out of the bush, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.” Then he said, “Do not come near; take your sandals off your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground.” Exodus 3:2-5
Another characteristic of Jesus and another of His names is the 'Anointed One.'
“You know of Jesus of Nazareth, how God ‘anointed’ Him with the Holy Spirit and with power, and how He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.” Acts 10:38
We think of Jesus as appointing Apostles, not being called one. However, in this verse, we are to claim Him as our 'Apostle.'
“Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our ‘apostle’ and high priest.” Hebrews 3:1
An 'Author' is someone who writes something. Jesus wrote our faith with the ink of His blood:
“Looking unto Jesus, the ‘author’and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:2
LET US PAUSE:
Oh, the Power in a name! My daddy always reminded his children growing up never to stain our name because our name is our character. Today, think how the Angel of the Lord, who speaks for God, has shared His anointing with you. Think how Jesus the Apostle has authored your faith! Take time to praise Him for your anointing!
About this Plan
Jesus was born over 2000 years ago! His Mother, Mary, was expecting the birth of her son Incarnate! Today, we too are 'expecting' Jesus, not as a baby, but as the One honored with so many names. In this 27-day Advent Devotional, let us go more profound as we discover Jesus through His many names that reveal His character! He is our soon-coming King!
