Joy For Today: 14 Joy-Filled Days With God

DAY 2 OF 14

"God’s Law Brings Joy"

God’s law is not only intended as your road map through life, but it also shows you the way to happiness. If you follow this map, you will discover that living according to these particular instructions that God gives you in His Word will make you extremely happy.

After all, this is why you were created: to do His will and to honor Him. So, when you obey His law, joy will automatically follow because you will know that you are fulfilling His purpose for your life. The psalmist has firsthand knowledge of this joy. The entire Psalm 119 is an extended song of joy about the law of God, “Your statutes are my heritage forever; they are the joy of my heart. I long for Your salvation, O Lord, and Your law is my delight” (Ps. 119:111, 174). Paul, too, knows this joy that comes to those who obey God’s law: “For in my inner being I delight in God’s law” (Rom. 7:22).

Because God loves you, His law gives you clear guidelines for living each day with joy. If you undertake to obey the law, you will truly be able to testify with the psalmist: “I rejoice in following Your statutes as one rejoices in great riches” (Ps. 119:14).

Then you will also be able to make the beautiful promise of Psalm 112:1 your own: “Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who finds great delight in His commands.”

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I praise You for the joy that comes into my life when I obey Your law. Amen.
