Infinitum Advent Break Barriers, Week 2Sample
Generosity Breaks Down our Barriers of Worry and Fret
When we lean into a posture of generosity, barriers of fret and worry can be broken in our own selves. Surrendering to a practice of generosity causes us to rely on the provision of God and breaks the false beliefs that we are our sole providers, that we can control the flow of resources in/out of our lives, or that it’s all up to us to make ends meet.
Mary surrendering to God’s gift of an unplanned pregnancy was an incredible act of generosity and committed her to a lifetime of faith-filled dependence on God’s care and provision. There was no saying yes to a self-sacrificing deal like that and then carrying on with the delusion that she could make it all happen, make it all turn out alright, or even attempt to control it.
We may be tempted to view generosity as an above-and-beyond practice, but in truth, it is not only one of the hallmarks of a follower of Jesus. It is one of the most effective tools for discipleship (becoming LIKE Jesus).
Can you recall a time when circumstances beyond your control required more of you than you thought you could ‘give’, and so you found yourself leaning more heavily into the reality of God as your loving Father or provider?
Is there a situation/area in your life right now where the flow of generosity is stymied by fear?
