Seek Your City's GoodSample
God’s Kingdom is our # 1 priority
“Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33)
Jesus taught His followers to pray for the coming of the fullness of His Kingdom. He also commanded them to “seek” this kingdom first and foremost. It is more important than earthly matters like food and clothing, Jesus tells us. The kingdom of God should be our highest priority and our strongest longing.
It’s not without reason that Jesus addresses this topic. All too often, we are so occupied with the ordinary things of this world that we almost forget that there is more. It’s easy to be so involved in our work, social relationships, or other responsibilities that we lose our focus on spiritual things. Therefore, we need to be reminded every now and then!
God’s Kingdom is more important than any human kingdom, nation, or social structure. Therefore, those should not be our highest priority anymore. People who are not believers may not like that. They may blame us for being disloyal. But we are not! Being a citizen of heaven, we still seek the best for our family, city, and nation. Loving God more than anything else, we are still called to love others as much as ourselves.
What is your highest goal in life? How does this influence other aspects of your life?

About this Plan
As Christians, we are not at home in this world. Instead, “our citizenship is in heaven” (Philippians 3:20). We are exiles and strangers here. What does this mean for our daily lives? How are we to act in the city and nation we are living in? This reading plan helps you find out.
