Collegiate Day of Prayer: 40-Day Campus Prayer Guide

DAY 26 OF 40

DAY 26: Multi-Generational Prayer - Part 1

By Julie Loos (Moms In Prayer)

“Do you see what this means—all these pioneers who blazed the way, all these veterans cheering us on? It means we’d better get on with it. Strip down, start running—and never quit! No extra spiritual fat, no parasitic sins. Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we’re in. Study how he did it.”
— Hebrews 12:1-2 (MSG)

The Collegiate Day of Prayer mission is “A united, multi-generational day of prayer for revival and awakening on college campuses in America.”

When the original Concerts of Prayer for colleges were adopted by all the major denominations of the day in 1823, prayer was multi-generational because the church was. There is a dire need to rekindle the flame for multi-generational prayer for colleges, and this is a unique historical moment to do so.

Each generation has a seat at the table, but sometimes we need to invite others to pull up a chair and join hands as we bless the campus with prayer. Surely the pioneers who blazed the way in the original concerts of prayer for colleges are cheering us on in the heavenlies.

Even though all campuses have been adopted in prayer on the Collegiate Day of Prayer for the past several years, we must not quit in our pursuit of corporate prayer, which historically sets the table for revival. We all need to call the church back to prayer for the college. We want every denomination in America united in prayer for every college campus in America.

Let’s invite parents and students to join together in prayer. Invite Grandma. Uncle Collie. Pastor Bowman. Sunday school teacher Mrs. Reynolds. Youth group member Nathaniel. Neighbor Judy. Young mom Jordan. Campus minister Joe. College student Ashley. Neighborhood churches.

Let’s give the church a taste of why it is so important to pray for our campuses. After all, the future workers in education, government, media, arts and entertainment, business, religion, and family-related fields are being trained largely in our nation’s colleges and universities. As the colleges go, so goes the nation.

PRAYER POINTS:

  • “Father God of the generations, You are the same yesterday, today, and forever. Forgive us when we have neglected to join intergenerationally in prayer, where we can glean wisdom and inspiration from one another. By Your Holy Spirit, prompt us to invite multiple generations to pray together for our college students, faculty, and administration. Call Your Church to care again for the campus and its spiritual welfare. Amen.”

About this Plan

Collegiate Day of Prayer: 40-Day Campus Prayer Guide

200 years ago in 1823, nearly every major denomination and university across America united in prayer for our nation’s college students. Campuses were being radically transformed by powerful seasons of spiritual awakening. Today, churches and campuses across America are once again uniting in prayer for the next generation on college campuses. Will you join us for 40 days of prayer for revival and spiritual awakening?
