Have you ever felt frustrated because you asked God for a miracle that didn’t happen? You saw it happen for someone else, but not you? Talk about an opportunity to lose a lot of faith in God. My dad was diagnosed with stage four cancer. Our family and church prayed, fasted, and had faith Jesus, the Man of Miracles, could heal him… but my dad passed away a year later. Why? How do you believe in a God of miracles when something like this happens?

There’s a story in the Bible where Jesus was asked by a father to come to his home and heal his 12-year-old daughter who was dying. On the way, a mob of people surrounded Jesus, and in the crowd was a woman who had been ill and suffering for a long time, unable to find a cure. She had heard of this Man of Miracles, Jesus, and so desperately she pushed her way through the crowd and touched his robe, and immediately, she was healed.

Jesus stopped and said, “Who touched me?” Of course, his followers were like, “We’re in the middle of a mosh pit. What do you mean who touched you?” But the woman fell on her knees before him, and Jesus spoke these powerful words:

“Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace.” (Luke 8:48, NLT)

This teaches a powerful lesson. Even in a crowd, even in a world of billions of people, Jesus sees you. Have faith in who He is, what He’s done and can do, and come to the Man of Miracles expectant.

But check this out, while that happened, news came that the 12-year-old daughter had died. Imagine the frustration of that father. “Jesus, you let me down. You should’ve moved faster. Why did this woman get her miracle and my daughter didn’t?” Relatable, right?

But Jesus said, “Don’t be afraid. Just have faith, and she will be healed” (Luke 8:50, NLT). The story goes that Jesus arrived at his home and said, “Stop the weeping! She isn’t dead; she’s only asleep” (Luke 8:52b, NLT), and with that, He woke her, and she came back to life.

Something God has taught me through my dad’s passing is to zoom out and see the greater miracle He’s already done. The greater miracle that Jesus, the Son of God, left Heaven for earth to rescue us is a miracle. That He willingly laid down His life to forgive us – talk about a miracle. And then, He rose again and offers us power over sin and death, eternity with Him in Heaven – talk about a miracle. That disappointment I felt over not getting some extra time on the clock with my dad was replaced with something else. He had given my dad ultimate healing.

I’m not saying I don’t deal with sadness and grief over not having my dad. I miss him every day, but more than grief, I feel joy over where he is, what he’s doing, and being reunited with him one day. Jesus, the Man of Miracles, makes that possible.

So, whatever you’re going through, remember you’re not just a face in the crowd. Jesus sees you. Remember to have faith in who He is and what He can do, and remember to have faith and find joy in the greater miracle He’s already done and promises to do eternally. He is… the Man of Miracles.
