Self Worth: Walking in Godly ConfidenceSample
God's winning team
Did you ever play dodgeball in school? In this game, the "captains," usually the two strongest players in the class, took turns choosing people to be on their teams.
I always had a liking for ball sports and usually got elected to choose who'd be on my team. Typically you always want to pick the best players right away for your team, but I often chose those who were otherwise "overlooked."
"Why, Déborah? Didn't you want to win?" you might be asking. Yes, I did. Absolutely! But I also knew that usually pretty quickly, most people would be eliminated, no matter whom I chose. If I didn't get eliminated myself, I'd often be one of the last ones standing. All I wanted from my teammates at that point was their support!
I believe that's how God sees us! He is eternal, the last One standing, there in the beginning and there in the end. Yet He wants each of us, with all our weaknesses and flaws, on HIS team!!
"Remember, dear brothers and sisters, that few of you were wise in the world's eyes or powerful or wealthy when God called you. Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And He chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful. God chose things despised by the world, things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important. As a result, no one can ever boast in the presence of God. God has united you with Christ Jesus. For our benefit God made Him to be wisdom itself. Christ made us right with God; He made us pure and holy, and He freed us from sin. Therefore, as the Scriptures say, 'If you want to boast, boast only about the LORD.'" (1 Corinthians 1:26-31, NLT)
Why does God choose to do it this way? So that we do not boast in anything but Him! I also believe He wants us to know we don't have to be strong in and of ourselves—His strength is made perfect in our weakness! (see 2 Corinthians 12:9) He knows that even if you're the last one standing, He will stay on the field for you—and win!
You are invited to play on God's team. With Him, you are sure to win! :-)
You are a miracle!
