The Lord's Prayer: Part 2

What do you think the future will be like? There was a time people thought that by 2022 we would have flying cars! We’re not there yet, but ideas about the future have been a part of our imagination for a long time. The Bible holds very important truths about the future that God wants us to look forward to. Living in the times and places we do, sometimes we like to only think of “right now” because of all the stuff we have or want to do. But throughout history, and even today, many people worldwide were unable to do that. Instead, many people have been waiting for God to come and change the world once and for all! The Bible tells us one day God will come to the earth and bring justice to the world, which means He will finally set right all the wrong things that happen in the world.

When Jesus taught His disciplesThe Lord’s Prayer, He continued, saying, “Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10 NIV).

Think

Everyone has different ideas of what heaven will look like, but there’s one thing we can agree on: One day God will bring heaven to the earth. In the meantime, we need to act like heaven is already here. If you’re not sure what that means, think of the old saying, “What would Jesus do?” This is to get you to think about how Jesus would want you to respond to something like your sibling breaking your toy or when your mom and dad ask you to do something you don’t want to do. Jesus is inviting us to pray for Him to come and make the earth like heaven. Regardless, you have the opportunity to love like Jesus while you wait for His promises to come true.

Do Something

Ask God to come! Your parents know a lot of things that need to change in the world. Ask them what they think those things are, and then pray God would give you opportunities to help change things. Then, recite The Lord’s Prayer together as a family and think about a future when more people will know that Jesus loves them.

Pray

Dear Father in heaven, thank You for listening to me. I ask that You would show me how I can make a difference today so my actions will bring You glory while we wait for You to come. I pray everyone can see that You are Lord. I want things to be like You want them to be. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
