M - Manage Your Life With God
Life as an official requires much travel and time away from home. This can be challenging for our relationships. We need to plan to effectively manage the balance of work and life.
Effective management begins with an effective plan. The Bible teaches us to get all the advice and instruction we can. This helps us to plan effectively.
Start by intentionally reaching out to people you know will give you wise, Godly advice.
Consider who you admire in your field that has succeeded in their career and home life. Consider who you look up to because of their faith in the Lord. Consider who you want to be intentionally speaking into your spouse's and children's lives. Make these relationships a priority. Become wise by walking with the wise.
Allow me to pass along the advice a wise Christian counselor once gave me: choose THREE anchors you can turn to when life gets hard. They cannot be dependent on someone or circumstances (i.e., running can’t be dependent on the weather). Perhaps it’s reading the Bible, journaling, praying, listening to uplifting music, working out, going for a walk, listening to a message from church, or an encouraging podcast. Whatever your anchor, use that time to focus on what is true, honorable, just, lovely, commendable, excellent, and worthy of praise. These anchors are part of your plan; these will help you manage times of temptation, dark valleys, and when things get hard. They help you to limit distractions and remain present. This is an exercise we encourage you to do with your loved ones. Have each determine their own three anchors. You can keep one another accountable to these when troubles in life arise.
Effectively planning how we can manage the stresses of work and life by turning to God will keep us on a successful path.
What is God teaching you about managing the balance between officiating life and home life?
How are you managing the physical, mental, and emotional pressures you feel during the season?
About this Plan
In today’s world, everybody’s in a rush. We rush our mornings to get to school or work. We run our days to get more done. We rush our evenings with full schedules. Unfortunately, another day passed, and we rushed right past God. As sports officials and families of officials, we run by God even faster with all our travel and responsibilities. Let’s slow down and spend some TIME with God.
