Finding Safety in God's Care, the Story of Ruth

DAY 21 OF 21

Jesus Christ is the ultimate Redeemer

“When the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.” (Galatians 4:4-5)

When Ruth sought refuge with God, He provided for her by means of a ‘redeemer’ who was to take care of her needs because she could not provide for herself. This law was good in itself and showed God’s care for the vulnerable.

But it was also an image of God’s provision for all humans. For we all need a redeemer! We are spiritually bankrupt. We are trapped in our sins, and the only way to escape judgment and destruction is to perfectly obey all of God’s laws. We don’t manage to do so, however, because our heart is corrupted and our will is sinful. We can’t get out of this situation by ourselves; we need someone else to redeem us.

God sent a Redeemer, Jesus Christ, “when the fullness of time had come”. His mission is to adopt helpless people into His family and shower them with spiritual blessings. In order to do so, Jesus did not just pay money (as Boaz did to buy Naomi’s fields), but He gave His life. He did this for people from all nations and backgrounds. You just need to “seek refuge under God’s wings”, admit your helplessness, and surrender to Him!

Do you follow Ruth’s example?
