21-Day Devotional for Christian WritersSample
As Christians, our calling is to be faithful with the gift that God has given us. We do this by remembering that whatever we write is a record of our faith, of our lives, and of our gift.
Does this mean that you have to go through life being fearful because ‘God is watching and keeping an account’ and rubbing his hands in glee in anticipation of your every failing? No, far from it!
In today’s chapter, King Darius went to archives of King Cyrus, his predecessor. The archives documented King Cyrus’ detailed decree regarding the rebuilding of the temple, laying out everything, from its building structure, to the funding of the work. Upon reading the decree, ‘Tattenai, governor of Trans-Euphrates, and Shethar-Bozenai and their associates carried it out with diligence.’
The Bible is filled with God’s promises. And sometimes, in the busyness and pressures of life, it’s easy to forget those promises. Today’s reading is a reminder for you to keep a record of those promises; whether by journaling your thoughts, writing your books, or any other way you seek to live out your gift. Know that God sees it all, and like the Israelites in today’s reading, you never know when or how He will bring that record to life to demonstrate this faithfulness to you.
Today, as you go about your daily business, ask yourself: Is my writing a record of God’s Word and faithfulness to me?
