Perspective Through DisappointmentSample
Are you doing enough?
Can a day that didn't go as well as you'd hoped still turn out to be a good day in the end?
"I wasn't able to check off as many things on my to-do list as I wanted today. I could have—should have—accomplished more, but I spent too much time lying around and wasting time, and now I'm disappointed in myself..."
Are you familiar with these kinds of thoughts? Personally speaking, I've had them a good number of times myself! But let's stop for a moment and think about this. If that's how we're evaluating our days, we're basing our feelings on what WE have accomplished.
If that's the case, I'd like to share a few very important phrases with you, and I really hope you'll remember them long after you finish reading this email. They could completely change the way you feel in the future. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter if you've done enough. What matters is knowing that you ARE enough. You are enough, even if you have not done enough.
"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9, NIV)
Do you know what I believe God is saying through these verses? "Eternal life is a gift I give you. You did not earn it, nor can you work for it. You could never achieve that goal. But I love you, and to Me, you are enough, even if you think you haven't done enough!" I pray that you would believe those words…believe them and rejoice! :-)
If eternity is already a gift from God, don't you think He wants to give you this day, too, with the freedom to rejoice in it, even if your human accomplishments were "not enough"? Release your disappointment with yourself to God and accept the joy that He pours over you (see Zephaniah 3:17).
In spite of any feelings of insufficiency, you may harbor towards yourself, you can rejoice because you are enough in God's eyes!
What a reason to celebrate today!
You are a miracle!
