Being Generous: With and Without MoneySample
Where Do I Start?
Do you want to be generous but don’t know how to start? You’re not alone. So far we’ve looked at a few ways to reshape our mindset. Today, we’ll look at how to move toward meaningful action.
How can I help? It’s easy to use most of our mental energy on our worries, plans, and problems. But when we spend too much time focusing on our own needs, we lose awareness of others’ needs.
But what happens when we replace some of our self-focus with curiosity? We begin asking questions like “What does my community need?” or “How can I help my neighbor?”
Curiosity is the bridge between what we have to give and the needs of others. It also helps us direct our generosity in the right direction. Of course, you can’t meet every need you discover, but you can help someone by being generous.
You’re not alone. You’re an individual, but you’re also a part of something bigger than yourself. As a follower of Jesus, you’re a part of an others-focused community. While we do need to take care of ourselves, we’re also responsible for the well-being of others.
Pray: God, help me to discover ways to be generous. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Challenge: Ask yourself, “What does my neighbor need?” And if you don’t know, ask.
