7 Days of Hope for Overcoming Eating DisordersSample
In His Peace
One of the greatest torments you may face with eating disorders in your life is the complete and total lack of peace. Food may be one of your primary sources of anxiety, and it also happens to be the one thing you can never live without or get away from. Do you see the dilemma? Every work party and lunch results in overthinking and anxiety. Every holiday and family gathering is no longer filled with laughter and love, but with stress and exhaustion. You may even turn down opportunities to connect with friends over game nights, celebrations, and catch-ups, because you couldn’t face the thoughts and feelings that accompanied ED.
But there is an answer to finding peace in every single one of those moments, and His name is Jesus. Has it ever occurred to you that peace isn’t just something God can provide, but rather, it’s who He is? Isaiah 9:3 says, “For unto us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Jesus is the Prince of Peace; simply say His name and allow it to wash over you.
Maybe it sounds good in theory, but you’re not sure how you can actually overcome your battle with food. Maybe you’ve experienced countless sleepless nights, flooding your bed with tears and wondering if you’ll ever find a way out. But know this. We can place our trust in Jesus, because there is nothing He can’t overcome! “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). Jesus endured everything as he hung on the cross; He bore the weight of this fallen world: every sin, trial, heartache, and emotion. But the grave couldn’t keep Him. He rose three days later, and conquered it all so that today you could live in freedom.
Claim your freedom. As those thoughts and feelings begin to arise with ED, say His name. Say “Jesus” and let your weary soul rest in peace, knowing that the battle is already won. He never promised this life would be easy, but He did promise to be with us in the middle of it. Over the next month, we’ll talk about some practical steps to help you overcome your battle with eating disorders and discover the healthy, abundant life Jesus has waiting for you.

About this Plan
Eating disorders (ED) are underwhelmingly discussed, highly misunderstood, and rarely spoken about in relation to Scripture and faith. But even though the Bible may not address this trial specifically, you can still look to God’s Word for wisdom, truth, and healing from the eating disorders you are battling.
