Fearless: A Six-Week Journey Sample
Week 3: O Lord, I Am Weak
THE WATER OF HIS WORD
Read Matthew 5:1-12.
What do you think it means to be poor in spirit? The word poor is used to refer to someone who lives in abject poverty, someone who has absolutely nothing. In fact, I think the widow with only two mites in Mark 12:42 might have more wealth than the poor whom Jesus is referring to here.
WALK ON TRUTH
Consider yourself as poor and having nothing to bring to the Lord, not even two copper coins. All you have to bring are your sins and your human frailty. Jesus said, Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 5:3). It is when we feel as though we have nothing and are nothing that God is able to be everything to us and He is glorified.
Read through Matthew 5:1-12 again and ask Him to help you understand your weakness and your poverty and to feast upon Him.
FOCUS THE EYES OF YOUR HEART
Quietly recite todays focus verses to yourself. Hide them in your heart, meditate on them, and make them your prayer throughout the day.
Matthew 5:3-5
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
