Looking for a Miracle

DAY 3 OF 4

When God Asks You to Walk On Water, He Wants You to Be Part of The Miracle

If I know who Jesus is and how He works, then I can expect that miracles won't always look the way I think they should. But even better than what I imagine, God is usually asking me to be a part of the miracle!

During the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea. But when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, “It is a spirit.” And they cried out in fear.
But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Be of good cheer. It is I. Do not be afraid.”
Peter answered Him and said, "Lord, if it is You, bid me come to You on the water."
He said, "Come."
And when Peter got out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. But when he saw the strong wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink, he cried out, "Lord, save me!"
Immediately Jesus reached out His hand and caught him, and said to him, "O you of little faith, why did you doubt?"
And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. Then those who were in the boat came and worshipped Him, saying, "Truly You are the Son of God." —Mathew 14:25-33, MEV

In this story, Jesus’ disciples are in a boat that is rocking from a severe storm. Suddenly, they see someone walking on the water, and they think it’s a ghost.

But Peter says, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water” (v. 28).

Jesus answered, “Come.”

The story is not that Peter sank when he looked down. The real story here is that when he said “Lord, command me to come,” he walked on water. When Peter took his eyes off of the Lord and looked at the storm, he started limiting what God could do and how he could do it—then he began to sink. The story is not the sinking, the story is the water-walking. Peter did walk on water by faith. The only way you can be a water walker is when you don't limit how God can do it.

If God can use Peter's faith as part of a miracle, there's no reason to think that He can't use us to do the same in our world today because God is the same yesterday, today, and forever! (Heb. 13:8).

For truly I say to you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. And nothing will be impossible for you. —Matthew 17:20
