Finding Faith in the StormSample

Finding Faith in the Storm

DAY 1 OF 7

Do you have to feel God to experience Him?

How often do we say, "I don't feel God?" Would you say this is an expectation you have…to feel Him all the time?

When I went to Australia for a year when I was 21, it wasn't easy to separate from my parents because we have a very close relationship. But when I was there, I never questioned whether or not they still loved me or would help me if I ran into a problem. I trusted them to be there for me, even if I couldn't see or feel them…I knew, deep down, that they would be! This was before the days of video calls and online, face-to-face chats. I had to trust their words without seeing them.

In the same way, we can trust God's words and be assured that He loves us and will help us, even if we can't see or feel Him. If (always that little word!)...if we seek His face.

His Word tells us to "...Seek His face evermore!" (Psalm 105:4, NKJV)

This is a short verse with a huge impact. It's a short verse you could easily skip over. But if you're troubled by the question, "Why don't I feel God?", this verse can bring clarity instead of leaving you to question. Seeking implies that it's an active search. Evermore means in all circumstances, no matter what you're feeling. His character and love for you are unchanging! You don't have to feel God to experience Him.

When I had major problems with the bank in Australia due to fraud, I didn't feel the comforting embrace of my parents, but I did experience their action, their care, and their help resolving the problem. In the same way, you will experience God when you seek His face. As you actively seek Him—yet without waiting to feel Him—you can trust His unchanging character. You can rest in the assurance that He loves you so much that He will help you and that He cares about you and your problems.

And one day, one day we will truly see Him. "'Look, He is coming with the clouds,' and 'every eye will see Him…'" (Revelation 1:7, NIV).

You are a miracle!
