JESUS: GOD INCARNATE
Jesus is unlike any man who ever lived. He was at the same time both fully God and fully human, and he is able to identify with us as humans in every way. When Jesus came to earth, he never stopped being anything less than God. Yet he set aside his divine power in order to live as a human being (Php 2:7). Jesus’ ability to heal, knowledge of the unknowable, and command over demonic spirits and nature alike came from his anointing by the Holy Spirit at his baptism.
This mystery illustrates the wonder of the incarnation: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (Jn 3:16). Jesus’ life represented the love of God. He testified to the fact that he is the only way that people can come to God (Jn 14:6). He knew that he must give his life for others to have life, and Jesus willingly gave his earthly life so that others could live eternally (Mk 10:45).
Jesus, thank you for willingly giving up your life so that mine could be saved. I can’t understand a love so great as this, but I am so grateful for it. Amen.
