THE PASSOVER
The Passover was a particularly poignant time in the life of the people of God. It served as an ongoing reminder of the Lord’s protection and stood as a lasting reminder that the Lord had delivered his people and that he would surely fulfill his promises on their behalf. Here, at the base of Mount Sinai, the people celebrated the Passover before their journey to the land of Canaan.
In the New Testament, Jesus celebrated the Passover with his disciples before his journey to the cross. The significance of Jesus celebrating the Passover with his disciples is that he acknowledged the Lord’s provision both throughout history and through what was about to occur in his crucifixion. Jesus knew that his death on the cross and resurrection from the dead was a fulfillment of God’s promises to his people. A festival that had been celebrated throughout Israel’s history completely changed when Jesus offered his body as an eternal sacrifice.
Jesus, you have always provided. You have always met my needs, even my need for a Savior. Thank you for offering yourself as the final sacrifice to wipe away sin once and for all. Amen.
