Fear grips the hearts of many people today when they consider the ever-unfolding tragedies in schools, from Columbine to Uvalde, Texas. Issues of safety and protection are at an all-time high in every school community. Active shooter drills are as routine for students today as fire and tornado drills were just a few decades ago.

Parents are plagued by tormenting thoughts: How would I protect my children in the event of an emergency? Should I try to homeschool my kids? Would a self-defense class help save their lives?

God desires that people move together from angst to action as they step into the God-space, trusting Him to surround and cover our schools with His power and presence. God is our shield and defender-physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Together we pray God’s word for our schools, trusting Him for peace and protection in every circumstance.

Today we focus on God as protector in every school community.

Praise God, Our Protector

“May the Lord answer you when you are in distress; may the name of the God of Jacob protect you.” Psalm 20:1

God, we give You praise for Your faithfulness and protection. You are our Creator and our Protector.

Pray for Schools to be Places of Safety

Words from Psalm 140 read, “Keep me safe, Lord, from the hands of the wicked; protect me from the violent, who devise ways to trip my feet.”

Lord, though we do not understand Your thoughts and ways-what You allow and what Your hand stays-we do acknowledge our trust in You. May our school community be a place of protection where students are free to learn, create, grow, and trust in You.

Pray for Hearts to Extend Protection to Others

“…may Your love and Your truth always protect me.” Psalm 40:11

We declare that Your love and truth will protect each student in every situation. May they make wise choices, choosing to protect those who may be in harm’s way. We ask that each home, family, and classroom would be a safe haven, with each child being seen and valued. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
