The Four AgreementsSample
Agreement #2 is to not take anything personally.
This agreement is centered around your ego. Jesus was beaten, bruised, and belittled, yet He never took things personally.
Paul was stoned, beaten, and wrongly accused, yet he never took things personally.
Daniel was thrown into a lion’s den for praying, yet he never took things personally.
Joseph was sold by his brothers, overlooked, and wrongly accused, yet he never took things personally.
Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for the color of his skin, yet he never took things personally.
I love this reminder Nelson left us when he said, “Forgiveness liberates the soul, it removes fear. That’s why it’s such a powerful weapon.”
When you think of taking things personally, what comes to mind?
Are you a person who is offended easily?
If you are, why do you think that is?
What is the origin of this offense?
Why do you allow others to control your emotions?
As you reflect and ponder some of these very deep questions, I want to remind you of the creator you are connected to. I want to remind you that God is love. When you connect to God, you can source everything He has for you.
This is what 1 Corinthians 13 has for you.
'Love is patient, love is kind. Love does not envy, is not boastful, is not arrogant, is not rude, is not self-seeking, is not irritable, and does not keep a record of wrongs. Love finds no joy in unrighteousness but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends. But as for prophecies, they will come to an end; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will come to an end. ' 1 Corinthians 13:4-8
Think of how many negative agreements you have made when you have taken things personally? Imagine all of the baggage, and pain you need to let go of?
What does this look like for you to release this baggage?
What does it feel like for you to seek forgiveness?
What does it look like for you to invest time with the Lord, in love?
In Psalms 136:6 it says, “Give thanks to the God of heaven. His love endures forever.”
Think about what it would be like to be connected to a God whose love endures forever?”
Imagine being connected to that source of love? Imagine how you would personally feel as well as how you would impact others?
Imagine this new type of agreement with yourself and with others?
Are you ready to release these old agreements and sign new agreements of love?
Can you see what God is trying to show you in your own life?
Are you ready to surrender and remove your ego?
Lastly, I beg you to ponder and reflect on this verse from James 4:10 which says, “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.”
Increase your spiritual growth. If you want to truly grow and live your life with passion and purpose, surrender yourself to the Lord.
Let go of any unforgiveness you have toward others. Let go of any hate, anger, jealousy, envy, or bitterness.
Go before the Lord now and surrender it. Create this new agreement with yourself and with whoever the Lord shows you to speak with.
Let me know what resonated with you the most?
One last thing, take time to do this. You don’t get extra credit for speeding through it. Your life is so valuable. Listening and hearing the Spirit will erase every concern in your life.
I’m praying and rooting for you.
