TO THE RESCUE

A study was done by Dr. Curt Richter at Harvard in the 1950’s. He placed both domesticated and wild rats in a pool of water to test how long they could tread water before they gave up.

They were the same breed of rat but the difference between the results of the domesticated rats and the wild ones was astonishing. The domesticated rats could swim around for 40-60 hours, the wild rats would give up and sink after 15 minutes.

In a further experiment with the wild rats, he put them in the water but right before they gave up due to exhaustion the researchers would take them out of the water. They dried the rats off, let them rest for a few minutes and then put them in the water again.

This time the rats swam around for 40-60 hours just like the domesticated rats had done. What changed so that instead of giving up after a few minutes the rats were able to tread water for many hours? The researchers concluded it was because the rats now believed they would be rescued.

Since the rats believed they would eventually be rescued by their human friends, they could push their bodies way past what they thought was previously possible. The domesticated rats knew their human friends would help them, once the wild rats understood this they could hold on until being rescued.

Daniel 6:27 tells us, “He rescues people and sets them free by working great miracles. Daniel’s God has rescued him from the power of the lions.” Daniel was thrown in the lion’s den, but he believed God would keep him safe and rescue him. And God did.

God rescues people from all kinds of troubles by working miracles. If you need rescue all you must do is believe. You don’t need great faith, just a small amount of faith that God will come through for you.

When the rats believed they would be rescued they could hold on a lot longer. If you believe that God loves you, has a plan for your life and will help you in any situation then you can hold on too. The situation may seem bleak, the odds may be against you, but God will rescue you.

He’s been doing it for years. He rescued Noah, Moses, David, Peter, Paul and so many others across the centuries. He has worked miracles and delivered people from all sorts of trouble. Believe God will do it for you and he will.
