DAY 19 OF 28

What’s the worst job you’ve had to do? For me, it was something I was asked to do on a mission trip. I was serving at a food pantry, and we were tasked with sorting out the good onions from the rotting onions. Spoiler alert: they were all rotting. We didn’t figure that out until we were almost buried in onions and had been picking mold out of our fingernails for a while.

Today, you may be having a tough time doing things like chores, homework, or a shift at work. You may not want to do the task that’s been placed in front of you. What Paul tells us, though, is that we can go into every situation with the attitude that we’re working directly for God. We‘re invited to joyfully give ourselves to whatever task we have to do. It may not feel like it at the moment, but looking back, we’ll be confident that we worked hard, which sets a great example for others and helps us see that God cares about every part of our lives.

So, take a deep breath (and be thankful you’re not smelling rotted onions).

Today, cast your worries and anxieties on God. Let God know what work you’re not looking forward to or might not want to do. Then go out into the world today knowing that you can approach your work with the attitude that you’re working for God. Complete this work for the Lord and not for anyone else, as a sign of praise and gratitude for God, who loves you and cares about the day-to-day details of your life.

Finally, look back at God’s faithfulness, recognizing how every day is a gift from God who loves you and sees the work you’ve done.
