A Servant's HeartSample

A Servant's Heart

DAY 4 OF 7

“Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.” (Galatians 1:10)

The apostle Paul found out that the Galatians had been won over by people who preached a more pleasing gospel than he had done. Who will they believe? Paul, or the other preachers who had become very popular among the Galatians? That is the reason why Paul asks: ‘What do you think? Do I try to please people? If so, I would not be a servant of Christ!’

Actually, this is a valid question we can ask ourselves. Why do I do the things I do? For whom do I do them? Paul is very clear about his motivation: If I still try to please people (the world), I would not be a servant of Christ!

What is our motivation for the things we do? Are we still pleasing people, or maybe ourselves? To feel good, or to be noticed and appreciated by people? Perhaps this is an awkward question, but let’s be honest and reflect on it for a while.

You have many gifts and talents that you can invest for God’s Kingdom. Whatever you do to serve Him, whether it is something small that will hardly be noticed by others, or it’s prominent and visible and everyone admires you; to God there is no difference between one or the other.

What matters most to Him is your heart’s motivation. The things you do out of love for Jesus are the only ones that have eternal value and will never perish.
