Use Your Words!Sample

The power of “yes”!
Welcome back to this week-long series on using your words to glorify God and open your heart to His miracles every day! I believe there are seven powerful words that can change your purpose and trajectory: “Thanks,” “Yes,” “No,” “Help,” “Sorry,” “Enough,” and “Ask.” Today, let’s focus all of our attention on the powerful word “Yes.”
I am amazed at the number of times I can say “yes” in a day!
- I said yes to getting up and embracing the day when I could have stayed in bed.
- I said yes to starting my day with Jesus when I could have read the newspaper.
- I said yes to God’s identity for me—I could’ve started the day stuck in shame.
- I said yes to obeying the rules of the road as I drove when I could’ve followed my own rules and paid the consequences!
We all have the opportunity to say “yes” to God every moment of every day. The alternative is to say “no” to Him, and we all know the pain that a single decision can cause when we choose to sin.
The Bible is so clear that saying “no” to ourselves and our personal desires is a “yes” to God. Jesus said, “‘If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it.’” (Luke 9:23-24, NIV)
You can say “no” to following your own priorities, agendas, and desires. In saying “no,” you are saying “YES!” to God’s priorities, agendas, and purposes. His Word teaches us…
“Delight yourself also in the LORD, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.” (Psalm 37:4, NIV)
“...‘“Worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only.”’” (Matthew 4:10, NIV)
“I desire to do Your will, my God; Your law is within my heart” (Psalm 40:8, NIV)
When we say “YES!” to God, we open our hearts to all that He has for us.
Today, take a moment and commit the day to Jesus. Make a covenant with God to say “YES!” to every prompting, correction, opportunity, and change. Open your heart to Jesus’ direction and say “YES” all day long! :-)
You are a miracle!
