Through the Bible: James

DAY 1 OF 3

Genuine Faith is Evidenced by Deeds

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
James 1:2-3 (NIV)

The book of James calls for us to apply living out our faith in Christ. For believers, it is easy to recite scripture, but genuine faith in Christ will be tested when we are under persecution and suffering.

How do I choose and make godly decisions when facing crossroads–either follow Jesus without knowing what it’ll lead me into or tag along with the world’s motions? How much can I honestly trust in God’s unforeseen promises for my life when tests and trials overwhelm me?

Abraham’s faith was a great exemplar to me on how to endure all difficulties in my failures in order to, as the Bible teaches us, persevere and hold onto our faith till the very end, so we may receive the crown of life and righteousness in heaven.

Prayer

Dear Father God, thank You for Your wisdom (James 1:5-8) empowering me to keep asking in my lack but keep believing in my disbelief that You are resourceful, infinite, powerful, faithful, and loving whenever I call upon You for help. Thank You, Jesus, the author and perfecter of my faith, for holding me tight in Your palms; for in my weakness I can be strong in You. Praises be unto Your name forever. Hallelujah!

Day 2

About this Plan

Through the Bible: James

In the early church, there was a distorted mindset that Christians, if saved by grace through faith, need not worry about their actions. James responded solemnly with this overarching idea in the letter: faith without works is dead. Therefore, he exhorts all believers with practical advice on how to overcome temptation, persevere in trials, treat others without favoritism, tame our tongues, and manage our wealth in God’s way.
