Faith Foundations - How to Follow JesusSample
Let’s recap what Jesus has instructed His followers to do. These are our faith foundations or what it means to live out our faith in Jesus. As you’ve learned so far, this way of living is very different from how others live.
From day three we learned we are called to love our enemies and pray for them (Matthew 5:43-44), give to those in need and not brag about it (Matthew 6:3-4), pray (Matthew 6:9-13), and forgive (Matthew 6:14).
On day four we learned we are to be people who ‘have a good eye’ which in His culture means to be generous (Matthew 6:22). We are not to worry (Matthew 6:34), or to judge others (Matthew 7:1). And those who follow Jesus are called to treat others the way they want to be treated (Matthew 7:12).
These are the things that might seem simple enough for us to do, but simple doesn’t always mean easy. Living out our faith is often difficult. The truth is, we can’t live the Christian life (do the things Jesus asks us to do) without help.
Here’s great news! God’s spirit, The Holy Spirit, helps us live out our faith! We don’t have to do it alone!
Read: John 14:26; Acts 1:8
Reflect: Do you think following Jesus might sometimes be hard? Why or why not? According to the Bible verses we read, what will the Holy Spirit do for us?
Pray: Thank God for sending His Holy Spirit to help teach you and remind you of all the things Jesus wants you to do. Thank Him for always being with you.
