Protect Yourself - Proverbs 7
Proverbs 7 is another chapter warning us against adultery, but more specifically, how to guard against temptation.
What is temptation? It’s when you have a desire to do something you know doesn’t please God, will not be good for you, and might hurt someone you love. Temptation is everywhere, but how do you resist it? One of the most important things you can do is protect yourself by keeping God’s truth fresh in your heart by reading, studying, and memorizing God’s Word. Psalm 119:11 tells us, “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.”
I love walking on the beach. For me, the sun, the sound of the ocean, and the sand under my feet help restore my soul. Because I’m fair-skinned, if I don’t put on sunscreen, later on, I will regret my amazing walk on the beach. Proverbs 7 opens by telling us that God’s Word within us is the protection we need to keep us strong when we are tempted. Take time today to read God’s Word and pick one verse to ponder and meditate on throughout your day.
“Father, thank you for the protection Your word brings into my life. I pray that you would give me a greater hunger and desire for Your word. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
