7 Habits of Highly Effective BelieversSample

7 Habits of Highly Effective Believers

DAY 4 OF 7

Habit #4 to becoming a highly effective believer is to help others.

In his book 7 Habits to Highly Effective People, Stephen Covey says, “Win/win people see life as a cooperative, not a competitive arena.”

In Matthew 22:39, Jesus says, “Love your neighbor as yourself.”

In 1 Corinthians 12, Paul paints a picture of what helping others should look like.

Paul writes, “so that there would be no division in the body, but that the members would have the same concern for each other.”

Think about that for a second. What does having concern for others look like to you? Do you have concern for others? Are you thinking of ways to help others?

As you read through these passages, what are they saying to you? What do you see in your life that needs to change?

Is there anything on social media that is affecting your view of others? (My hand has been raised many times on this one). If there is one single area that will distract you from becoming a highly effective believer, it’s social media.

As you reflect on these passages, I want to share with you an incredible set of verses from the book of James.

Again, my hand is raised as guilty when it comes to this topic. I am a very competitive human being. I love to win. I love to succeed. I love to crush the competition. Everything changed for me when I started asking why I wanted to win, succeed, and crush the competition.

Is your drive for success leading you in the right direction? Mine was not, and it was leading me down a path of destruction. This type of mentality crippled me. It kept me living a small life. I wasn’t thinking about helping others; I was only thinking about helping myself. I wasn’t living in an abundance mindset.

Read what James 3:13-16 (MSG) says:

“Do you want to be counted wise, to build a reputation for wisdom? Here’s what you do: Live well, live wisely, live humbly. It’s the way you live, not the way you talk, that counts. Mean-spirited ambition isn’t wisdom. Boasting that you are wise isn’t wisdom. Twisting the truth to make yourselves sound wise isn’t wisdom. It’s the furthest thing from wisdom—it’s animal cunning, devilish plotting. Whenever you’re trying to look better than others or get the better of others, things fall apart and everyone ends up at the others’ throats.”

You are reading this because you want to be a highly effective believer. You want your life to count on Earth as it is in heaven.

Let me leave you with a few questions to reflect upon. Take the time to let the Holy Spirit speak to you. Remember, discipline equals freedom.

What does helping others look like to you?

Are you holding onto any envy toward anyone? Do you need to ask the Lord or anyone to forgive you?

What is holding you back from helping others as much as you help yourself?

Is your self-worth linked to your performance?

What does a humble life look like to you? What is the Holy Spirit showing you?

As you begin to think about how you can help others, you will be on your way to becoming a highly effective believer. Your life will change.

Let me know what resonated with you the most.

Rooting for you.

PRAYER:

Holy Spirit, help me see what I cannot see.
I want to love my neighbor as I love myself.
I want to see the good in others.
I want to activate abundance in body, spirit, mind, and soul.
Forgive my sins as I forgive those who have sinned against me.
I want to be more like you.
Love you. Amen.
