Royals Part I: United KingdomSample
You Are That Man
While this isn’t the only thing that David gets wrong during his life, it stands out for the pure gravity of the situation. We often look at great leaders who fall with condemnation. David similarly condemned the man from Nathan’s story, and Nathan’s response to David is the same response that should be given to us. “You are that man!”
We’ve all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. We are all capable of this depth of sin. The trouble is we are often so blind to it. Unless it is absolutely laid out in front of us, just like it was to David, we don’t see it.
The consequence of David’s actions is the death of his son. This is what David deserved, but God transferred the penalty to David’s son. While the child was alive David fasted and pleaded with God, but once the child had died he got up, washed, and ate. Why? “Why should I go on fasting? Can I bring him back again? I will go to him, but he will not return to me.” David knew that death was not the end, but he also knew that he could not bring his child back from the dead.
We all deserve the death penalty, but 1000 years after David, God transferred that penalty, not to any of our children but to His own child. A Son who God would return from death in victory so that none of us receives the penalty we deserve but are adopted into His royal family and inherit eternal life.

About this Plan
Tales of triumph and tragedy in the books of Samuel, Kings, and Chronicles. The history of Kings of Israel and Judah is a story of divine faithfulness despite human failure. These flawed rulers point us towards the one true faithful king. Part I covers Saul, David, and Solomon, the three kings of the United Kingdom.
