Psalms: Window to Our Souls, Part 2Sample

This is a beautiful song of adoration and praise! The psalmist is overjoyed at the thought of Yahweh and His steadfast love and faithfulness. The psalmist trusts in God's wisdom and knows God will vindicate and raise him up over his enemies. The song finishes with a description of the righteous that recalls the description of the man in Psalm 1 who "meditates day and night" on the law of Yahweh. An oasis of palm trees and the cedars of Lebanon all evoke images of the Garden of Eden. The cedars in Lebanon have an exotic, almost other worldly aura and grow at high (heavenly) altitudes. The Garden of Eden, which has four rivers flowing from it, is thought to be on a mountain top. The flora may also remind us of tabernacle and temple imagery.

These all point to the special place where God dwells with mankind. The psalmist is completely in love with Yahweh, and we are invited to participate in this Sabbath song. Recite the words aloud as you read and meditate on them. This song was meant to inspire all of Israel to declare Yahweh's love and to desire to dwell with Him. As you read the verses over and over again, make them yours.
