Starving the Fairytale: 5 Truths to Replace the Lie That More of Self in Our Work Is the AnswerSample

Starving the Fairytale: 5 Truths to Replace the Lie That More of Self in Our Work Is the Answer

DAY 1 OF 5

As a woman in America, there are two different ways to work: either chasing the dream the world’s way or choosing to submit the work and dream to God.

It is far easier to jump into the flow of culture’s way of working because that is the loudest voice with the greatest influence, and it’s all around us. But what makes it so dangerous?

It’s almost unnoticeable if you’re not paying attention.

Let’s look at the enemy’s ability and tactic to subtly distract and confuse Eve in the Garden of Eden after God told her and Adam not to eat of one tree: “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” Genesis 3:1

Did God really say it? Maybe He was mistaken. Maybe Eve heard God wrong. Maybe Satan knew better than God. Maybe God didn’t understand that He was holding them back from a good thing. Maybe it wasn’t that bad.

Confusion. That’s his grand plan. Satan just has to get us to question what God said to draw us into the lies. So what are the lies about our work that we need to replace with the truth? Here are a few:

1. We get to decide what our future looks like.

2. If we think positively enough, we can manifest our dreams into reality.

3. We have everything it takes to be successful right inside of us.

Life and work lived for self will only lead to dissatisfaction because we weren’t created with the capacity to worship ourselves and find wholeness in it. In this series, we will uncover lies we hear all around us so that we can expose them and replace them with the truth.

What is the truth that we can stand on in the face of an enemy who is working hard to take us down by confusing and convincing us that our work will make us significant? Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”- John 14:6.

God alone brings life and purpose to our work, and the enemy is wrong when he tells us that we deserve that seat. Submitting our work and dream to God means that He can take and use our work for purposes far greater than any promise from culture. The design is most trusted in the hands of the Designer, the plan in the hands of the Planner, and our purpose in the Hands of our Creator.

Time to evaluate: What lies about work have you heard or believed that you need to replace with the truth?

God, where have I been believing the lie that maybe You are wrong about my success? That my dreams are more important than Your plan for my life? Help me to see where I’ve been confused. Help me to identify the lies I’ve believed. I want to follow You today and know that You alone are the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Amen.
