Praying for Southern Asia

Southern Asia contains some of the most breathtaking scenery on the planet. Southern Asia abounds with beauty, from the snowy ridges of the Himalayas to the sapphire coasts of the Maldives. But there is deep brokenness under Southern Asia’s beauty. All five nations are among the poorest in the world. Young girls in Bangladesh and Nepal are sold as prostitutes by their families. Fatherlessness is a plague in Bhutan. The divorce rate in the Maldives is one of the highest in the world. Nearly three decades of war have left the people of Sri Lanka needing healing.

Only the Father can bind up the deep wounds of Southern Asia.

But the gospel's message is prohibited in these nations where He is so desperately needed. All five countries of Southern Asia have laws that severely limit Christian witness. Sri Lanka and Bhutan are Buddhist nations; the Maldives and Bangladesh are Muslim; Nepal is predominantly Hindu.

Praise God, the number of believers has been growing in Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Bangladesh, but there is still a desperate need for the story of Jesus to be told throughout Southern Asia. Without a miracle, most people in this region will live their entire lives without hearing the gospel even once.

Pray for the good news to reach every heart in Southern Asia.

Pray for Southern Asia:

• Pray for the government leaders severely restricting the gospel's spread to have hearts softened by the Holy Spirit. Pray that the people of Southern Asia will find freedom in Christ.
• Pray for the wholeness and healing of deep soul wounds. May the Holy Spirit bring peace, comfort, and assurance of the Father’s love.
• Pray for open doors for the gospel. Ask God to creatively orchestrate oppor­tunities for missionaries to enter and remain in Southern Asia. Pray that His people would find ways to build relationships, influence culture, and present the gospel.
• Pray for churches to be planted in every city and village of Southern Asia.
• Pray that God’s people will walk in the power of the Holy Spirit. Only by abiding in Jesus will believers be able to reach the nations of Southern Asia. Pray for wisdom, unity, and miracles.
