Discernment: A Study in 2 John

DAY 3 OF 3

What does it say?

John ends his letter by expressing his desire to see the church in person.

What does it mean?

The frenetic pace of the world makes building Christian community seemingly impossible. Our schedules are often determined by what is immediate and urgent, not what is foundational and important. Although John's letter was necessary, he knew paper and ink would not have the same effect as visiting the church in person. In Christianity, proximity is power. Joy is complete when God's people are together, united in truth and striving to show and share the gospel.

How should I respond?

Followers of Jesus cannot follow Jesus alone. Christian community is a foundational building block of an effective and joyous Christian life. Are you connected to Christian community? Consider joining a small group at your church or volunteering to serve in a ministry. Not only will your joy be complete, but you will be able to more effectively show and share the gospel alongside other believers.
