Living in Light of Eternity: A Study for TeensSample
Sharing the Gospel Is Not an Option
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”—Acts 1:8 (NIV)
What’s one of the most popular questions Christians wrestle with? Maybe it goes something like: ”What is God’s plan for my life?” or “How do I know what God wants me to do?” Whenever we ask a question like that, most of the time it has to do with our career. In today’s culture, we get so caught up in what our jobs are going to be or what kind of degree in college we’re going to study for that we can mistake that for our true mission.
If you want to know what God wants you to do with your life, then read Luke 9:23–25 and Matthew 28:19–20! This doesn’t mean you aren’t allowed to have a career or job. In fact, God uses people in their jobs to bring others to Him. But as followers of Jesus, we must know our mission is much more important than our jobs or careers, as it affects the eternity of those around us!
Have you ever seen a spy movie? One thing I love about spy movies is the constant feeling of thrill and suspense. There never seems to be a moment where my heart isn’t racing. Why is that? Many times it’s because I understand how important the mission is! If the spy doesn’t succeed, then some robot run by an evil business man will take over the world, or maybe a lot of people will get seriously hurt. Now that may be a silly example, but sharing the gospel with people is truly the mission we were given by God! Now, it is NOT our job to save people, but it IS our job to tell people about the saving grace of Jesus that changed our own lives! It’s not a suggestion or an add-on to our faith, it’s our MISSION!
Acts 1 describes us as witnesses. We’re given power by the Holy Spirit to share the gospel with people because it’s that important! There’s a battle for people’s souls, and Jesus wants to use us to help bring people to know Jesus! So, tell those people you’ve been wanting to tell and, although it may be scary, watch how the Lord does something you never thought possible!
Pause: Think about the people in your life that need to hear the gospel.
Practice: Write down a list of all the people you’re going to share the gospel with and talk with one of them!
Pray: Take some time to thank Jesus for how the gospel has changed your life. If you’re scared to share your faith, ask to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Pray for strength and peace as you share. Pray for the words to say, especially if you feel like you don’t know what to say. He will guide you! Lastly, pray the Holy Spirit will work in the heart of the person you’re planning to share with.
