"What’s in a Name?"
Names are important. They tell a story and they paint a picture. My real name is actually Roberta, and the story behind my name is that my parents were expecting a son and that my name would be Robert. When I arrived, one of the hospital staff took it upon themselves to add an ‘A’ and wrote “ROBERTA” above my crib.
Equally ordinary was the way in which I came up with the name for Colour Conference. I would love to regale you with stories of heavenly visions or audible voices, but the humble truth is that I found the name as I was leafing through a Vogue magazine! The original idea was divinely deposited within my heart, but the naming of it was mine to discover. As God’s children, we’re actually in a creative partnership with God. Some things we must wait for, but I truly believe that there are times when our Father delights in placing a paintbrush in our hand to give us the latitude to colorfully create around His directives.
I don’t know what He intends for the canvas of your life, but I am confident that this same principle applies to you. Sometimes we simply need to step out in FAITH and trust our own instincts, knowing that God is well able to guide and correct should we start to color outside the lines!
Over the years, I have discovered that God is always a reassuring step ahead in all we are entering into. Actually, He’s light years ahead and masterful at joining the dots of His master plan which weaves itself around and through all our lives.
What’s in a name? More than we can possibly imagine. You might feel as though your name has disqualified you from the picture, but the wonderful truth is that it is His name, the name above all names, that not only qualifies you but elevates you to a position of authority, honor, and victory - not failure and defeat.
