Declutter: Overhaul Your HeartSample
GRATITUDE
Gratitude is the game-changer for a cluttered heart.
Whether it’s clogged up with unforgiveness, scarred over from trauma, or crowded with resentments, when you get grateful, all of that gets pushed out when you get thankful. For our last day together, this is your friendly reminder that gratitude helps kickstart decluttering. There is less room for hurts to fester when you have a grateful heart and more space for the Savior to take up residency.
Becoming aware of all the ways Jesus has saved us leads us to thankfulness. Who are we that Jesus—fully man and fully God—would lay down his life for us?
He offers us a full life that we haven’t even begun to imagine. In John 10:10, Jesus says he came to bring life and life abundantly. This is so contrary to what the world offers: lack, fear, greed, shame, and shiny things with no substance, to name a few.
Gratitude in all circumstances opens doors, clears paths, and begins healing for heavy hearts. When we clear out all the lies of the enemy we have believed, when we get rid of the weight of guilt or shame, and when we work to eliminate the piles of unforgiveness, we create more space for the Creator of the Universe to do his good work in us.
If you want to be done with disappointment, get rid of resentment, and oust the ugliness of trauma, take a step towards gratitude. It will lighten your load and light your path.
Action: Try a gratitude list, sing worship songs, or speak some scripture aloud. These are good practices to get you to a grateful place.
Prayer: God of Heaven, thank you for this opportunity to sit with you and notice all the gifts you have already placed in my life. Thank you for the gift of your Son, without whom none of this is possible. Thank you for the ways you have already blessed me: the chance to wake up to another sunrise, the air I breathe, and the knowledge that you are still on your throne. Please restore the joy of my salvation. Help me notice all the good gifts you have placed all around me today. Heal me, help me declutter my heart, and make me the best version of me I can be. In Jesus’ name, amen.
