Advent: Catholic Reflections

DAY 3 OF 24

Traditionally the beginning of Isaiah chapter 11 is used as the list of gifts of the Holy Spirit conferred at the Sacrament of Confirmation. For Isaiah this is a prophecy of the coming Messiah and the virtue of his peaceful rule. The image of the world that Isaiah proclaims is so contrary to the world of conflict that many of us experience around us, so, once again, our Bible readings focus on the hope of glory, when Christ's rule will bring about Isaiah's vision in its fullness. Luke, like Isaiah, strongly connects Jesus with the Holy Spirit, but he also emphasizes the intimacy between Jesus and the Father. He encourages us to be like children, open to the wonder of God's revelation. If possible, take some time to go for a walk and look with childlike eyes at all you see around you. Spot the vibrancy of colors, the majesty of the natural world in all its forms, feel the heat and cold of the weather - give thanks to God for his gift of revelation that you have seen and heard.

About this Plan

Advent: Catholic Reflections

Advent is, of course, a time to prepare. To prepare our homes, lives, and our hearts. Join us as we explore the Bible readings used by the Church to challenge, encourage, and help us prepare, not only to celebrate the incarnation but also the second coming of Christ.
