2022 - A greater Faith, Love and Hope

DAY 3 OF 6

The Wonder and Power of God

  1. Devotion:

There’s something so humbling about understanding how vast the universe is and acknowledging how small we really are, but in turn, realising how significant God’s love for us truly is. In a world that feels so big but, in reality, is just a blip in the span of the universe, God still knows you by name and knew you before you were born. Louie Giglio’s message, ' Indescribable,’ paints this picture so well (if you haven’t watched it yet, I highly recommend it). The Bible says that God knitted us together in our mother’s womb (Psalm 139:13), and it also says that He knows the number of hairs on our heads (Luke 12:7). Throughout the Bible, we see scripture after scripture referring to the greatness of God, yet His undeniable love for humanity and intricate knowledge of us.

Sometimes it’s hard for us to fathom the greatness of God. In our human-ness, we struggle to comprehend His magnitude. I once heard someone say that trying to imagine what heaven is like is equivalent to thinking of a new colour. Every colour you think of would stem from the primary colours. We simply couldn’t do it. Our efforts to grasp the greatness of God fall short every time; even the most prominent theologians could not adequately comprehend His wonder. Isaiah 58:8-9 says, ‘“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” declares the Lord. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.”

At this point, you might be asking yourself, what’s the point of even trying if we will never fully comprehend? The marvel of God is not about Him hiding something we won’t ever find; rather, it’s God’s way of drawing us closer to Him. As we seek Him, we will find Him, but we will find that there is more of Him for us to seek. So we continue to seek. It's God's way of inviting us into a lifetime with Him.

Being aware of God’s power isn’t meant to make us feel separate from Him; it draws us closer to Him. This same God, who spoke the earth into being, who set the stars in place, sent His only son to die for you and me. The God of the universe wanted a personal relationship with you. You would think with that much power and glory, He wouldn’t need us. But that’s the thing - He doesn’t NEED us; he WANTS us. And His Spirit lives within us (Galatians 2:20). The same power that raised Christ from the dead lives in you and me I. Part of the awe and wonder of God is that while He can do it all alone, He chooses not to. He chooses us.

Prayer:

Mighty God. Your glory and power are unfathomable to us. We thank you that even in Your greatness, You love us. Despite our failures and shortcomings, You still love us and want a relationship with us. We thank you that you sent Your Son to die for us and that the same power that raised Christ from the dead lives in us. We pray that You would take us deeper in our relationship with You. That we would grow in our understanding and wisdom. Help us seek You, and as we seek You, we will find You. Help us live a life poured out for You, God, as empty vessels for Your power. Use us, Lord, and work through us to see your Kingdom come to earth - as it is in heaven. Thank you for choosing us, God.

Amen.
