Prayers for Dads

DAY 1 OF 7

Fatherhood Is Protection

By Pastor Tony Davis

Father, I come before you today humbled and in awe of Your grace and mercy. Lord, I thank You for how You have designed what a family is supposed to look like and the specific role You have ordained for fathers. Within this role, You have called us to be protectors. I pray You would give dads the strength, perseverance, and discipline to protect their children spiritually, physically, and emotionally. Proverbs 14:26 (NIV) says,

“Whoever fears the Lord has a secure fortress, and for their children it will be a refuge.”

God, I pray fathers will have a healthy fear of You and that their children will find refuge because of it. Lord, help men be the watchmen of their homes and families, give them the wisdom to see the spiritual, physical, and emotional threats that lay ahead, and provide them with the ability to safeguard their children. God, I pray every father would model what it means to follow You and love their kids to teach them how much You love them. Please surround these dads with other men who love You. Help them build their community and, through that community, help them protect each other while teaching their children to find safety through a community of believers.

Father, thank You for the privilege and blessing it is to be a dad. I ask that all dads be filled with Your Holy Spirit to shepherd their children from the overflow just as You have shepherded them. I pray their children would always sense a loving, gentle, consistent pursuit of their souls from their dad, so they know regardless of what they face or what they’ve done, and they always have arms to fall into. Amen.
