New to Faith: Bible Reading Plan

DAY 12 OF 16

Baptism

Jesus commanded his disciples to baptize new disciples, and because of his command, we read about many who repent and get baptized in the book of Acts. We believe baptism is for anyone who has placed their faith in Jesus Christ. If you believe Christ died for your sins and He is your only hope for a life with God, baptism is the next step in your faith journey.

Baptism does not “save” you. A relationship with God comes through faith in Christ alone. Baptism, however, is an outward sign of an inward reality. When you trusted in Christ, you were joined by the Holy Spirit into the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. It is something we can’t see. Water baptism is a beautiful picture of being buried with Him (immersed in water) and raised to new life with Him (coming out of the water).

Baptism is a communal practice where Christ-followers publicly identify with and share their decision to follow Jesus. It can be an extraordinary moment when you physically sense what God has done for you in Christ as your new church family welcomes you.

Question: Have you been baptized? Why is baptism an important step for the believer? If you’d like to learn more about baptism, reach out to your local church community to ask them for more information.
