Jesus First: Devotions to Start Your DaySample
Powerful Message
What is the message of the cross? Is it not the entire message of Jesus’ ministry? Love laid down is the path to God. Jesus broke the power of sin and death when he rose to life from the grave. He was crucified—let us be very clear—he was murdered, though he did nothing wrong. He did not preach the message of laid-down love and then, at the last minute, overpower those who sought to take his life. He lived out the love he taught others to emulate. His example is our example. None of us is above Jesus.
This is why Jesus said not to be surprised when we face many trials in this life and instead take hope in him. He has overcome the world. Though we cannot escape times of trouble and hardship, Jesus has gone before us. He is with us through the Spirit who empowers us by his grace. Though the path of love may look foolish to a world that values success and comfort, it is the power of God to those of us who choose it.
Jesus, I choose to follow your lead in my life. I want to choose love in all things, not just in the ways that benefit me or mine. Help me make loving choices. You are worthy of my trust and my sacrifice.
