Dear Control Freak
Can we talk about control? Or the illusion of control? From the time we gasp our first breath, we want to control. We are each born with a selfish nature. It's not our choice; it is our reality. At an early age, it becomes extremely apparent when we see toddlers fight over toys screaming, “Mine! Mine!” At this young age, we are unaware that control is an illusion. Even many adults are not aware of this. Many of us struggle with the grip of control. This is an exhausting endeavor. Trying to control others, events, or the world will only lead to frustration and failure. We do not have enough emotional margin to waste our energy attempting to control things that are actually “out of our control.” Do we even ultimately want control? Often we believe we do. That is a crazy truth. Which would you choose: His will, His way, or your will, your way? His ways/plans are higher than our ways/plans, and His mind is higher than ours. I hate to believe I could fully grasp God's mind. He would then be too small.
We have plans and hopes for our life, but He has a greater purpose than we could ever hope for or imagine. Isn’t that good news? Better than I could ever hope or imagine? Yes! I’ll take some of that!
Walking in that truth takes an intimate surrender to His will and ways. It takes obedience to His truths. Daily! The “Control Freak” must lay down and throw in the white flag of surrender. This is our greatest feat leading to our greatest freedom. It is dying to live and dying to our will, our way to live, more fully and more freely alive. Do we understand this? The grace of yielding is a gift. Yielding to His will and way leads to more life fulfillment and purpose. Living in your purpose results in a passion for your days. We have an example in Jesus as He proclaimed, “However, not my will but Thine be done.” He chose to live in the will of the Father.
Just as a fish never tires of swimming in the water, we would not tire as much if we lived inside our greatest assignment and purpose. Dear control freak, surrender! Step into the best yielding and obedience for the most freeing and fulfilling days of your life. One step at a time. One simple surrender at a time.
About this Plan
Life can often be so overwhelming. How do some people walk tall and empowered while others seem to drown in overwhelm and exhaustion? Is there a choice? Are some of us victims while others are victors? Is life happening FOR some and life happening TO others? Do we have a say so in the quality of our lives? I sure hope so. Let’s discuss EMPOWERED living.
