How Do You Find the Truth?Sample
How can you find the Truth?
Was Jesus talking about pirates when He said?
"The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up; then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. (Matthew 13:44)
Probably not. But pirates are interesting because whenever they took treasure they would go somewhere to bury it so no-one could find it.
But if they left it for years, how would they find it themselves? They made a map.
Builders, architects, engineers, and cooks do the same. They always start with a “map” before beginning work.
If you want to know how to find the truth, you will also need a map.
The Bible is a bit like a pirates treasure map, because in the classic stories they can be a challenge to follow. Likewise, the Bible is a “map” that we have to work out to understand the truth and the will of God. These are the steps to find the truth.
First, recall the promise of God in Matthew 7:7-11, which says, “Seek, and you will find.” God promised that those who seek WILL find.
Next, remember that the scriptures are not the words of man. They are the inspired words and wisdom of God. (See: 2 Timothy 3:16-17).
Now think about who is teaching you. Your teacher is not your pastor, priest, minister, or any man. The scripture in John 6:44-45 tells us, “And they shall all be taught by God.” When we listen to Jesus we are being taught by God.
Which brings us to the next step in our “map.” To whom are you listening? God the Father tells us who to listen to. “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.” (Matthew 17:5)
Finally, to ensure you’re on the right track, “Test everything,” as it says in 1 Thessalonians 5:19-22.
And like the man who found the treasure in the field and covered it up until he owned the field, it is not a bad thing to cover up the truth you find until you are certain you have it right.
Call to action:
Listen to God and follow the words of Jesus, testing everything against the truth of the scripture. If you don’t know or understand something, pray and seek God. He WILL open the word to you.
