Peace in the Midst of TurmoilSample

Peace in the Midst of Turmoil

DAY 5 OF 5

How much time do we spend worrying? Worry is such a natural part of our lives that oftentimes we don’t even realize we are doing it.

We worry about what others think of us. What we will wear to dinner. What kind of car we drive. What our children act like in public.

When Jesus taught the Parable of the Sower, He mentioned some of the seeds that were sown fell among the thorns and the thorns grew up and choked them out. Jesus then explained the meaning of the parable and that the seed represents the Word of God.

He said, “Now the one sown among the thorns—this is one who hears the word, but the worries of this age and the seduction of wealth choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.” (Matthew 13:22)

If we insist on worrying about things beyond our control, then we are undoubtedly in danger of letting the worries of the world choke us out of our fruitfulness and rob us of our peace.

So, what is the remedy for worry? The apostle Paul provided the answer when he said, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7)

If we desire peace in the midst of turmoil, then we must be willing to come to God with our prayers and petitions with thanksgiving. This opens the door for our worry to exit out of our lives and His beautiful peace to come in and stay.
