Through the Bible: Mark

DAY 4 OF 8

The Turning Point

And he asked them, ”But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered him, “You are the Christ.” Mark 8:29 (ESV)
And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James and John, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, and his clothes became radiant, intensely white, as no one on earth could bleach them. Mark 9:2-3 (ESV)

The Gospel of Mark began at the lowest point on earth at the Jordan river, and now we are at the highest mountain in the region, Mount Hermon. Jesus asked his disciples who they said He is. When Peter answered, “You are the Messiah,” it was a key that unlocked the door of truth. From then on, Jesus stopped teaching the Kingdom of God and spoke more about the Son of Man. In the transfiguration, the light was shining from within Jesus’ body, and the full glory of the Son of Man was revealed. Peter foolishly tried to interject with his concerns, but God shut him up by announcing that Jesus is His beloved Son. From then on, Jesus prepared the disciples for the suffering that was to come when the sins of the world were to be nailed to the cross with Him. It is important to note that suffering must come first before salvation and for God’s purpose to be fulfilled.

Prayer

Dear God, when we first accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, it was a turning point in our lives. There is no turning back. We want to encounter Your goodness daily, take up the cross and follow You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

About this Plan

Through the Bible: Mark

Mark uses the Greek word euthus, often translated to “immediately,” 41 times to emphasize Jesus taking prompt actions to rescue anyone who believes in Him. The book is beautifully composed of two main sessions, summarised in this key verse in Mark 10:45, “The Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
