Psalm 23 Covenant PromisesSample

Psalm 23:6 Surely goodness and lovingkindness will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

Verse six, surely only mercy, goodness, and kindness will follow us all the days of our lives. Notice He says these blessings will follow us. It will come from behind and overtake us whenever it's a blessing from God. In Deuteronomy 28:1, God says, "As you obey Me, the blessings will come upon you, and they will overtake you." In Matthew 6:33, we are to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness. And all these things will be added to you.

God's blessings come as we seek after Jesus. The enemy's plan is to get us to seek after the blessing. We are always to seek Christ first; then, God commands the blessings from above.

In Numbers 22, we see the children of Israel with every tribe having their banner (flag) over their group of tents. They would fly their banner, and it would become their protection. That was a representation of Jehovah Nissi. Today, as we dwell with God, His banner flies over us, declaring to the enemy that we belong to God, and His banner becomes our protection.

God wants us to know Him by all of these different names. It feels good to have someone remember us by name. We like when we read the Scriptures assuring us Jesus knows our name, but it's shocking to realize that He even keeps up with the number of hairs on our heads. So God invites us to know Him personally with His covenant names. Psalm 91:14 shows us to make it personal. God says because ________ (insert your name) has known Me by name, therefore, when he/she calls on me, I'm going to be there for them. So take this literally and apply it to Psalm 23. When you need strength, say, "Father, I know you are my Jehovah Maooz, my strength." Also, when you need protection, call on your Jehovah Nissi and so on.

John 10:11-14 sums up the Good Shepherd so beautifully, ending with, I am the Good Shepherd, I know my own, and my own know Me.

David, the writer of Psalm 23, met Goliath unafraid because he knew God and His covenant promises. He went without fear, knowing he would win because this giant did not have a covenant with the living God. Think of Psalm 23 as a daily prescription. Confess it daily until God's covenant names and promises become a reality in your life.
