The Joy of Being Mom Devotional Sample
Our Trustworthy Father
Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. –Proverbs 3:5–6 NLT
When I became a mom, I was overwhelmed by the enormity of the responsibility. If I didn’t feed my children, they wouldn’t eat. If I didn’t bathe them, they wouldn’t be clean. If I didn’t hold them and love them, they wouldn’t be held or loved. If I didn’t, then they wouldn’t.
It was in those moments that I had to learn to trust God with everything. He would help me. He would guide me and strengthen me. And guess what? He did. Every. Single. Time.
In those early years when I was feeling tired or inadequate, I trusted God. I’m not saying I never had tough days, because I did. But I realized I wasn’t alone. The Lord was with me every step of the way. When I was sad, disappointed, tired, or overwhelmed, I reminded myself to trust God. Every time, every day, it is a choice to trust the Lord and believe the promises in His Word.
As your children get older, pray for them to make godly decisions and trust the Lord to help them. Now that I have adult children who are raising children of their own, I continue to trust Him. He knows the plans for my family. He knows what’s best for every season and every situation. It’s always a choice, isn’t it? I trust Him with today, and then tomorrow I get to choose to trust Him all over again. He’s proven Himself faithful every time and every day.
Here’s a vision for parenting: every single thing we do, no matter how big or small, should serve to draw our children’s hearts into a closer relationship with us and, ultimately, with God. As much as we love our children, He loves them even more. His desire is that they walk with Him all the days of their lives.
Trust God to give you wisdom as you parent your little ones and your big ones. Give God access to every area of your life. Let me encourage you to be fearless in setting culturally unpopular boundaries for your family. The Lord does not concern Himself with popularity, and neither should we. Believe God’s Word for your loved ones. Our Father’s concern is always for the health of our hearts and our relationship with Him. So it is with the relationship we desire for our children, regardless of their ages.
Let’s Pray
Father God, I am so glad I can trust You in every area of my life. You always show Yourself faithful. When I don’t understand what’s happening, I trust You to guide my steps. Thank You for always being worthy of my love and my trust. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
